Joe pitched for the Cubs in 1884, Baltimore in 1885, and for the Bridgeports in 1886 and 1887.

As as Former Major Leaguer, Bridgeport pitcher Joe Brown was a popular draw.  The Bridgeport Morning News (3-15-1886) regarded Brown as “one of the best pitchers in the business.”  Unfortunately, Joe died in 1888 at the age of 29. He had been suffering from recurring bouts of malaria (Bridgeport Standard 7-28-1887).

Dick Bartell

1933 Orbit Card.

Dick covered the "swampy" right field at Newfield Park in 1927.  The next season he began a

20-year major league career.

Before he took the helm of the Bridgeport Bees in 1949, Byers had seven years pro experience as a pitcher. More importantly, he had a year under his belt as a minor-league manager.
